Another one of my crazy ideas coming up ...
Do you remember our conversation that first meeting about transport systems in Portland? How many forms of transportation have you guys actually used in the city? Other than your car? How far do you think we could travel on just $5 using as many transport options as possible?
Anyone fancy taking this challenge on, while ending up for ice cream at Tillamooks in Lake Oswego (assuming we find our way back successfully)?
If so, I've found the sponsor who'll contribute our $5 each: we'd need to organize this entirely ourselves and decide on a day we can all make when at least one parent is available to join us. My Mom would be happy to help out.
So do we want to challenge ourselves to see many different ways we can transport ourselves around the city and how far we can go on just $5? Could be a fun way to get into the transport topic more actively and have fun as a team at the same time.
So what do you think?

Sounds good to me. I'll go.
ReplyDeleteI know for a fact that its $1.50 for a Student/Youth ticket to "All Zones, for 2 Hours" on all TriMet forms of transportation, so I think $5 will quite far (since we could all travel for 6 hours), we could travel anywhere in the city as far as we wanted, (Maybe even to the Airport!) but we would have to walk a little to get from the "Blue" Line to the "Yellow"/"Red"/"Green" Line.
ReplyDeleteAll in all I would love to go, if we can arrange it sometime soon I think it would be great!
Yeah! Glad you guys are keen to participate.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mitch for chiming in ... Austin, you are always on the data! Way to go!
So, Alexa and Jeffery: what do you think? Sounds like fun?
Does anyone have any preferances for times when we could do this?
How many different forms of transportation do you think we could combine? A couple of ideas from each of us would get us going ...
See you tomorrow

Hi folks,
ReplyDeleteCoach Sue here chiming in here briefly ...
This is a quick summary of your priorities from your team discussions at the meeting yesterday regarding the Outward Bound day and how you wanted to tackle/organize it. If one of you would like to volunteer to put these summaries together after your next discussions, that'd be great ...
So here's what you all agreed:
* Everyone wants to do this – thanks to Alexa and Jeffery for joining enthusiastically
Date Sunday 23rd, 10am - 6pm
Chaperones sue, marvin, heather
* Quick reminder of the parameters we set for the challenge:
- see how many forms of transport you can use
- see how far you can travel
- budget max: $5 per person
- ice cream at Tillamooks if you’re back in LO in time to end at 6pm
* This challenge is something that you guys as a team will design -- mainly on the blog space since it's coming up so soon
* Your parents will need to sign off on your participating in the final plan for the day so you wanted to keep them informed (get their input on safety or other issues etc) so that they can give you an ultimate “yes”
In terms of process:
* Continue to bring ideas for transport options, routes etc to the blog … keep them coming … you already have loads of creative ones to share
- e.g. Max; bikes; walking; the "pill" etc
* Point out questions you'll need to tackle, things you need to access, research you’ll need to get done with each other on the blog
- e.g. Jeffrey’s “do we have a Max map”?
- e.g. Austin’s: “what about food”?!
* If you bring a new topic or question to the design discussion, take responsibility to get a conclusion reached across the group
e.g. Jeffrey – for documenting the day -- pics and videos here we come?
* Think through the criteria by which you want to prioritize what you want to achieve that day, how you want to decide on the transport choices you bring to the table, and where you want to go etc
* Realize that you’ll need to build on each others ideas, and therefore listen well -- and synthesize -- so that you’ll therefore have built together in just a week …
A PLAN by Sat evening
- so your chaperones and parents know where we’ll start/drop you off, what to bring with you and where to pick you up at what time by the end of the day
So that's what you all figured out in only 15 minutes of meeting time ... from this point it should be downhill all the way, right?
See you Sunday ... ENJOY!
Sue
